THE GREAT MIDWESTERN PIE CHAMPIONSHIP

Best FRUIT Pie – must be in a double crust (top and bottom pastry crust), any fruit may be used
Best WISCONSIN INGREDIENT Pie – any kind of pie that features Wisconsin ingredients
Best FUN Pie – Anything goes! Think candy bars, potato chips, bratwursts…
Complete a Pie Championship registration form online (link below) and enter prior to Saturday, October 8th. Email us at email@example.com if you'd like to enter a different way.
Person entering the pies in the competition must be the person who made the pies. All ages are welcome to enter.
Professional contestants (anyone who is currently or has been paid a significant portion of their income to be a baker/pastry cook/chef) – must enter the Professional Division. See additional Pro Rules at the end.
Any non-professional contestant should enter the Amateur Division.
$10 entry fee per pie entry. One pie entry per flavor category.
Pies must be 9-10” and made in a disposable foil pan.
The complete recipe for each pie entry including the name of the pie, contestant name, phone number and email address must be submitted along with the pie.
All pies must be made from scratch – no pre-made crusts, canned fillings, etc. – except in the FUN pie category, pre-made candies, decorations, etc. may be used – crusts and fillings must still be from scratch.
Pies will be judged on:
§ Overall appearance
§ Crust, color, texture, flavor
§ Filling consistency, flavor
§ Overall taste
o Each judge will assign a numerical value of 1 to 5 in each criteria category without consulting with other judges.
o There will be a minimum of 3 judges.
o Pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner of that category. In the case of a tie, the judges will re-judge the tying pies.
o The decisions of the judges are final, judges will not know the contestants names.
o Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category as well as Best in Show.
o Best in Show pies will be determined by judging the three 1st place pies against each other.
Bring ONE - fully cooked pie and recipe card for each category entered to Palomino, 2491 S Superior St, Milwaukee, WI on October 15, 2016 between 9am and 11am. Pie Championship representatives will have final say on acceptability of the pie for the competition.
Judging of pies will begin at 12pm on Saturday, October 15th.
Winners will be announced and prizes awarded when judging is complete.
All contestants agree to have photos of their pies taken and shared for promotional materials.
Winners agree to have a photo of themselves and their pie taken and agree to share their recipe with The Great Midwestern Pie Championship for promotional materials.
Contest continues rain or shine.
Leftover pies may be picked up after judging by 6pm at Palomino.
All winners will receive a Great Midwestern Pie Championship ribbon.
1st place winners in each category will receive a $50 gift card to Honeypie, 2nd Place winners will receive a $25 gift card
Best in Show winner - prize yet to be determined!
All rules for the Pro Division are the same as above EXCEPT:
o Pros are required to bring TWO of the exact same pies in 9” disposable pie plates for each of their entries.
o No entry fee for the pro division – one slice of pie out of the two pies brought will be used for judging, the remaining pie will be sold by the slice during the Championship to benefit Growing Power.
o Winners in the pro division will receive big ribbons and bragging rights.
o Pro pies will be judged anonymously as well. Bakers and businesses making the pies in this division will be revealed after judging has taken place.
