Show off your pie making chops! Compete in one or all of the pie categories!!  Proceeds to benefit Fondy Food Center.



Best APPLE Pie – apples must be the main ingredient in the filling, any crust type is acceptable

Best WISCONSIN INSPIRED Pie – any kind of pie that features Wisconsin ingredients

Best CHOCOLATE Pie – bring on your best chocolate dreams



Complete a Pie Championship registration form online (link below) and enter prior to THURSDAY, OCT. 12th.  Email us at bakeshop@honeypiecafe.com if you'd like to enter a different way.

Person entering the pies in the competition must be the person who made the pies.  All ages are welcome to enter!

Professional contestants (anyone who is currently or has been paid a significant portion of their income to be a baker/pastry cook/chef) – must enter the Professional Division.  See additional Pro Rules at the end. 

Any non-professional contestant should enter the Amateur Division.

$10 entry fee per pie entry.  Entry fee payment made at pie drop-off.

Pies must be 9-10”.  One slice will be used for judging.  You will be able to pick up your pie leftovers and pie pans after judging is complete.

A complete ingredient list for each pie entry including the name of the pie, contestant name, phone number and email address must be submitted along with the pie.

All pies must be made from scratch – no pre-made crusts, canned fillings, etc.

We do have refrigeration onsite, if your pies need to be kept cool until judging, let us know at drop-off.

Pies will be judged on:

§  Overall appearance

§  Crust, color, texture, flavor

§  Filling consistency, flavor

§  Overall taste

o   Each judge will assign a numerical value of 1 to 5 in each criteria category without consulting with other judges.

o   There will be a minimum of 3 judges for each category.

o   Pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner of that category.  In the case of a tie, the judges will re-judge the tying pies.

o   The decisions of the judges are final, judges will not know the contestants names.

o   Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category as well as a Best in Show.

o   The Best in Show pie will be determined by judging the three 1st place pies against each other.


Bring one - fully cooked pie and ingredients card for each category entered to Palomino, 2491 S Superior St, Milwaukee, WI on October 14, 2017 between 10am and 12pm.  Pie Championship representatives will have final say on acceptability of the pie for the competition.

Judging of pies will begin at 12:30pm on Saturday, October 14th.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded when judging is complete (around 2:30pm).  Winners will be announced on the Beet Street music stage.

All contestants agree to have photos of their pies taken and shared for promotional materials.

Winners agree to have a photo of themselves and their pie taken and agree to share their recipe with The Great Midwestern Pie Championship for promotional materials.

Contest continues rain or shine.

Leftover pies may be picked up after judging by 6pm at Palomino.

All rules for the Pro Division are the same as above EXCEPT:

o   No entry fee for the pro division – one slice of pie out of the pies brought will be used for judging, the remaining pie will be sold by the slice during the Championship to benefit Fondy Food Center.

o   Winners in the pro division will receive big ribbons and bragging rights.

o   Pro pies will be judged anonymously as well.  Bakers and businesses making the pies in this division will be revealed after judging has taken place.



BEST IN SHOW/GRAND PRIZE: Best In Show Ribbon, $200 Cash prize

FIRST PRIZE (each category) - 1st Place Ribbon, $50 gift certificate to Honeypie

SECOND PRIZE (each category) - 2nd Place Ribbon, $25 gift certificate to Honeypie

THIRD PRIZE (each category) - 3rd Place Ribbon, $15 gift certificate to Honeypie
