 RULES:

Complete a Pie Championship registration form online (link ABOVE) and enter prior to FRIDAY, October 12th.  Email us at bakeshop@honeypiecafe.com OR give us a call at 414.242.6389 if you'd like to enter a different way.

Person entering the pies in the competition must be the person who made the pies - you may send another person to drop your pies off for registration under your name.  All ages and levels of expertise are welcome to enter!

$10 entry fee per pie entry.  Entry fee payment is made at pie drop-off.

Pies must be 9-10”.  One slice will be used for judging.  You will be able to pick up your pie leftovers and pie pans after judging is complete.

A complete ingredient list for each pie entry including the name of the pie, contestant name, phone number and email address must be submitted along with the pie.

All pies must be made from scratch – no pre-made crusts, canned fillings, etc.

We do have refrigeration onsite, if your pies need to be kept cool until judging, let us know at drop-off.


Pies will be judged on:

§  Overall appearance & creativity

§  Crust, color, texture, flavor

§  Filling consistency, flavor

§  Overall taste


o   Each judge will assign a numerical value of 1 to 5 in each criteria category without consulting with other judges.

o   Pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner of that category.  In the case of a tie, the judges will re-judge the tying pies.

o   The decisions of the judges are final, judges will not know the contestants names.

o   Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category as well as a Best in Show.

o   The Best in Show pie will be determined by judging the three 1st place pies against each other.

 

Bring one - fully cooked pie and ingredients card for each category entered to Palomino, 2491 S Superior St, Milwaukee, WI on October 13, 2017 between 9am and 11am.  Pie Championship representatives will have final say on acceptability of the pie for the competition.

Judging of pies will begin at 12:00pm on Saturday, October 13th.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded when judging is complete (around 2:30pm).  Winners will be announced on the Beet Street music stage at approximately 3pm.

All contestants agree to have photos of their pies taken and shared for promotional materials.

Winners agree to have a photo of themselves and their pie taken and agree to share their recipe with The Great Midwestern Pie Championship for promotional materials.

Contest continues rain or shine. In case of rain, Pie Championship awards will be moved inside to Palomino.

Leftover pies may be picked up after judging by 6pm at Palomino.

BEST IN SHOW/GRAND PRIZE: Best In Show Ribbon, $150 Cash prize

FIRST PRIZE (each category) - 1st Place Ribbon, $50 gift certificate to Honeypie

SECOND PRIZE (each category) - 2nd Place Ribbon, $25 gift certificate to Palomino

THIRD PRIZE (each category) - 3rd Place Ribbon, $15 gift certificate to SmallPie
